The Mimosa NearPoint technology platform has been continuously expanding to ensure productive archiving solutions
Mimosa NearPoint is the world leading email and file archiving solution. Gartner Inc have deemed Mimosa a “visionary vendor” providing a “magic quandrant for E-mail Active archiving.”
Mimosa NearPoint Includes PST. Ingestion, eDiscovery, storage management and disaster recovery. The solution provides a seamless integration with Exchange and Outlook and allows instant access to email which has been protected, archived and extended through Microsoft outlook or Outlook Web Access.
““The key to archiving is to increase storage efficiency and reduce the management overhead of data”
”
A Multi-Node Grid Architecture is employed by Mimosa NearPoint and is the most scalable solution in the email archive industry. Such scalability means that a single system system can support anywhere between 100 to tens of thousands of mailboxes. Another advantage is the Hot-Plug aspect of the Architecture which allows servers and storage to be added or taken away as required without breaking the logical consistency of archive information.
Mimosa NearPoint utilises a unique data capture method called Continuous Application Shadowing. This system captures Exchange log files the instant they are committed to disk storing them off-host on NearPoint. All email content is extracted from log files and stored with single-instance storage.
NearPoint also performs continuous data protection, supporting rapid recovery of Exchange at all levels, including automated disaster recovery and individual message restores. Exchange administrators perform database and mailbox recoveries using the NearPoint administrator console. Individual message restores however are performed by users themselves. In terms of storage management administrators have the ability to define parameters allowing mailboxes on exchange servers to be extended to the NearPoint server. Such parameters include message size, age and mailbox quota.
Smart Message Extraction
In addition to this Nearpoint has a function called Smart Message Extraction. This has the ability to break down individual messages into separate components including header, body and attachment (if existing). Each of these components is compressed and stored in NTFS. This function also catalogues property information which are stored in Microsoft SQL server desktop engine (MSDE). Rich message information includes context information for folders, flags, permissions and rich text. Rich text includes a record of whether the message was opened, edited, replied to, forwarded or deleted. All this metadata is stored in Indexed Object Repository, and the archive can be viewed at any point in time.
The risk associated with email and file system litigation is minimised with a comprehensive eDiscovery solution. This includes aspects of a mailbox including public folders, offline PST files, notes, calendars and more. An eDiscovery option allows advanced legal discovery and workflow. This aspect increases search capacity through providing a single location to search all current and historical email data.
Backup Technology have successfully implemented Mimosa as a service and solution for many of their household name customers.
