About PostgreSQL Backup
Backup Technology’s solution natively uses PostgreSQL as its database management system on Linux and Apple Mac installations, most PostgreSQL databases within the same Wide Area Network (WAN) can be protected live by the solution without the need for tapes or agents.
Backup Technology can also protect PostgreSQL database from a single Windows installation of the software solution alongside the Windows PostgreSQL Client.
How is this done without agents?
On a Linux or Apple Mac installation of the software, the PostgreSQL client will be installed as part of the software installation as the software uses this database management system to store its own data. Because the software performs backups of its own database periodically, it can also backup other PostgreSQL databases on other servers natively.
On a Windows installation of the software, the dump utility provided by the PostgreSQL Client will be used to connect to the target PostgreSQL server in the same way applications that utilise the databases on that server would. Backup Technology’s solution can then request dumps of the databases on the server, discover any changes since the last backup, and transmit them to their secure vault.
