Because our software solution itself natively uses PostgreSQL as its database management system on Linux and Apple Mac installations, most PostgreSQL databases within the same Wide Area Network (WAN) can be protected live by our software solution without the need for tapes or agents.
We can also protect PostgreSQL database from a single Windows installation of our software solution alongside the Windows PostgreSQL Client.
How is this done without agents?
On a Linux or Apple Mac installation of our software, the PostgreSQL client will be installed as part of the software installation as our software uses this database management system to store its own data. Because our software performs backups of its own database periodically, it can also backup other PostgreSQL databases on other servers natively.
On a Windows installation of our software, the dump utility provided by the PostgreSQL Client will be used to connect to the target PostgreSQL server in the same way applications that utilize the databases on that server would. Our software solution can then request dumps of the databases on the server, discover any changes since the last backup, and transmit them to our secure vault.
