About Oracle Backup

Backup Technology’s solution provides the ability to perform live backups of tablespaces, archive logs and even the control file on an Oracle Database Server, allowing recovery from complete server failure to almost any Point In Time (PIT) and without any tapes or agents.

This is done from a single installation of the software on either a Windows or Linux machine, alongside the Oracle Client software, within your Wide Area Network (WAN).

How is this done without agents?

With a Windows installation, this is made possible by installing the Oracle Client software on to the backup server enabling connection to the target Oracle database server in the same way any other application would do. Through this connection the software solution can then request dumps of the table spaces and archive logs it needs, and also the control file, after which it can discover any changes from the last backup that it needs to transmit to Backup Technology’s secure off-site vault.
A Linux installation can simplify this procedure by requesting the Oracle Database Server to dump its database to its local file system. The software solution will then access these dump files through UNIX-SSH or NFS.
